This medicine contains the active ingredient metronidazole which belongs to a group of medicines called antiprotozoal and antibacterial agents. These medicines are used for the treatment of infections caused by protozoa and anaerobic bacteria, such as postoperative infections, abdominal infections, acute ulcerative gingivitis, gynecological infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infection, infection of the central nervous system, bone and joint infections, lower respiratory tract infections, acute dental infection.
Is Metronidazole suitable for me?
Metronidazole is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it
- if you are allergic to metronidazole or to other ingredients of this medicine
In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:
- have liver damage
- have hematological disorders
- have acute diseases of the central nervous system
- have Crohn`s disease
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
Metronidazole interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Metronidazole?
This medicine is available in form of a tablet.
You should take metronidazole exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.
The usual dose for adults is 200 to 400 mg taken every 8 hours.
Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and use the medicine at the same time each day. Do not apply two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Metronidazole side effects?
Like all medicines metronidazole can cause side effects, including:
- loss of appetite
- diarrhea or constipation
- metallic taste
- dry tongue
- epigastric disorders
- abdominal cramps
- dizziness, vertigo
- ataxia, confusion
- hallucinations, psychosis
- impaired movement coordination
- transient visual disturbances
- muscle weakness
- headache and drowsiness
- pathological liver enzyme levels, hepatitis and jaundice
- skin rash
