How should I take Oxcarbazepine?

This medicine is available in form of a tablet.

You should take oxcarbazepine exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be prescribed according to your age, condition and needs.

  • The usual starting dose for adults is 600 mg divided into two daily doses. The usual maintenance dose is between 600 and 2400 mg per day.
  • The usual starting dose for children is 8 to 10 mg/kg of bodyweight divided into two daily doses, and the maintenance dose is 30 mg/kg per day. The maximum dose is 46 mg/kg per day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.
